-Airsoft AEGs-
One of the most popular airsoft guns on the market is called an AEG, or Automatic Electric Guns. These are battery powered weapons that will generally shoot both semi-automatic and fully automatic. The better brands on the market like Classic Army and Tokyo Marui product full replica weapons, meaning they are the same size and are exact in nearly every detail to the “real steel” versions of weapons from MP5's, AK 47's, M-16's and even cool European weapons like the G36 and the French FAMAS.
The increase in quality and the ability to have a reliable full-auto Airsoft AEG has significantly increased sales across the board, and has helped grow Airsoft from a little known and expensive hobby into a huge sport that you can get started in for as little as a couple hundred dollars.

Accuracy and reliability are the biggest areas where the manufacturers of Airsoft AEG’s have really helped themselves. Tokyo Marui really kicked the industry into gear with quality AEG’s with full trademarks and logo’s, however they were all plastic and fairly expensive. However other Airsoft AEG manufacturers like Classic Army and TSD are producing all metal (or “mostly metal”) weapons that give you a more durable AEG that will last a long time as well as operate reliably for a long time.
Accuracy has been increased through the introduction of the “Hop-Up” system. This system allows the control of the spin on the bb, allowing the user to adjust the flight of the bb as it leaves the barrel of the AEG and fine tune its accuracy. An Airsoft AEG can now be considered accurate to 60 – 100 feet or farther depending upon the specific AEG, length of barrel, etc.
Another big factor in accuracy is velocity. Generally Airsoft AEG’s will shoot between 250 – 350 fps (feet per second) out of the box which is not bad. However for the serious shooter upgrade kits are available to bring velocity into the 400+ fps range. This helps with accuracy, however if you are looking to play in organized games or leagues or on a commercial field you need to check their rules as there are maximum velocities allowed.
