-Airsoft Gas Guns-
Airsoft guns come in 3 basic flavors; Airsoft Electric Guns or AEG’s, Airsoft Spring Guns, and Airsoft Gas Guns. Which you will choose depends a lot upon what you are going to be using it for. For the most part, if you are looking at a Gas Gun, you are looking at an Airsoft Pistol. There are a few fully auto gas guns out there, however they are few and far between. Airsoft Gas Guns have become one of the largest segments of the sport, and as such nearly every “real steel” pistol you can name has an Airsoft counterpart.
Airsoft Gas Guns are not normally an entry level product. Spring guns are best for this as they are cheap and simple. Gas Guns require a little knowledge, maintenance, and cleaning and lubrication, however the green gas used by most makes them self-lubricating. It is still a good idea to lubricate the seals on the gun and magazine just to make sure it will continue running for a long time.
In the world of Airsoft Gas Guns you have 2 basic choices; gas blow back (GBB) and non-blow back (NBB) models. The blow back models are true “replicas” in that the slide will cycle after each shot, cycling the ‘action’ and loading a new bb. The best choice is an all metal Gas Gun as the clicks and clacks it makes is very gratifying to the shooter.
Manufacturers of airsoft gas guns abound. They are made by the BIG names in Airsoft like Tokyo Marui; however the most popular gas guns are made by HFC and WE. Regardless of whose gas gun you buy, make sure you are getting a sturdy, heavy feeling weapon. Make sure it comes with a magazine (or 2 is better), and don’t forget the extras you will need like a holster, 1 – 2 bottles of green gas, and of course a LOT of BB’s. We have found that BB’s of .23g work very well, however experiment and see what works best in your gun.
