DAW Review: TSD Caspian Arms Hi-Capa 5.1 Gas Blowback Airsoft Pistol.
We originally the chose the TSD Caspian Arms Hi-Capa 5.1 because we like trade marked Airsoft Guns. Seeing a replica gun with the proper trades on it really enhances the weapon. We also wanted all metal, accurate, and durable.
When it arrived we were very surprised and pleased with the packaging. I know, I know, but quality packaging has always impressed me, especially when you compare it to the plain-jane brown Asian packaging. This was color printed with images and trades, very nice. What really impressed us was the black silk looking liner inside the box. It really gave us a powerful 1st impression.
The 2nd thing we noticed was the weight. The all metal Airsoft Piston really feels good in your hand, especially with a charged and loaded mag. While I didn’t actually weigh them it feels damm close to the reel steel. The slide functions very well and gives a very reassuring metallic CLACK CLACK when you cycle the slide.
OK, time to start shooting. We opted for .25g bb’s because, well, that’s what was on sale when we bought the gun. So SUE us! One thing we noticed in the first and second mag was the amount of “extra” gas escaping during operation. This seemed to be a reason for concern, however as we shot it more the seals seemed to settle into place and the gas loss was significantly reduced.
We have a “combat target area” set up in the warehouse, ok it’s a sturdy cardboard box with old soda cans hanging inside it. But we think it works great for “product testing.” At distances of approximately 30’ this thing was dead on and required only minimal hop-up adjustment. This is a good thing as to adjust the hop-up you have to remove the slide, make a small adjustment, reassemble, test, disassemble, make a small adjustment, etc.
What we all really liked is that this thing feels and handles nearly identical to the reel steel gun. This makes it a wonderful training device for really learning how to shoot effectively. We at DAW are HUGE advocates of the use of Airsoft Guns in place of 'live fire' training. It makes a significantly safer environment in which to teach combat shooting (see blog post on Firearms Training with Airsoft.) Ask the guy from shipping who had an accidental discharge while holstering the weapon.
This TSD Caspian Arms Hi-Capa 5.1 has been used by everyone here for over 7 months now, and overall there is consistently only 1 complaint, and that is the magazine release. It is too damm sensitive. Translation, if you are not careful a heavy metal magazine is released and it falls to the floor, if you are lucky, missing your foot. I personally have broken one and had to buy a replacement and a “kit” to fix the busted one.
Other than the magazine release no one here has anything negative to say about this gun. We have well over 20,000 rounds through it and have not had any problems with feeding or jamming. We will continue to give you updates on the ongoing ‘testing’ we are doing in-house and let you know whether or know we are able to break it.
Have to go, it is time for another product test. Tracyis coming up the walkway!
